Topic: Security Alert!

We had an ipod stolen from our garage last night (7/5/09). This is a reminder to keep your doors locked, garage doors down and be alert for suspicious activity!

Update: We have learned that other items have been taken from at least 1 other home recently. Please notify the HOA & police if you have had any items stolen from your property. Working together, we can make our neighborhood a safer place!

Update 2: Check out the comments from neighbors from the home page.

Regarding Security.

It was always known you should never leave your doors unlocked nor your garage open. If you do your asking for trouble. People walk around at night. We have caught people walking up to our open garage late at night. We sometimes open the door and sit in the garage with lights off for kicks. We have caught these different people many years ago before I put metal garage doors. These people are not kids either but adults. I advise you replace your unsecure garage doors with heavy metal doors. Secure your home!

My work laptop was stolen from our minivan (it was hidden) and my husband’s TomTom was stolen from his truck. We think it happened while our vehicles were parked in the driveway, and we’re meticulous about always locking the doors. I did report everything to the police, and we have no idea when/how it happened, as there was no evidence of break-in on either vehicle. The garage door note posted above is good advice.

We had our unlocked cars broken in to twice last week. The thieves took cash and lottery tickets… they left other valuable items. We notified the police and we have also caught the thief on camera which has also been submitted to the police. The thief is usually in this area around 4:30am.

Is there any chance of supplying the HOA with a screenshot of the video that we can post?

Hopefully other neighbors will heed these stories and prevent a similar incident from happening to them!

Someone actually came around to back screened in porch this morning at 4:40 a.m. I believe they were after my bike, which I stupidly left sitting out there. [Didn’t think it was visible. Obviously they are getting braver.] Fortunately, the motion detector on door must have scared them away. I also filed a police report. The officer did not mention other break ins. Obviously, we have a problem here, folks. We need to work together to stop these people as this could escalate. I would be interested in seeing the video as well. Thanks.

I didn’t think it was possible to be more upset and frightened than I was this morning. After reading these posts, I am really concerned. But my thought is we need to take real action. I believe, if one is not already in force, we need to implement a neighborhood watch. In my former neighborhood, we started one and caught our “bad guy” within a week. I would be more than happy to contact the appropriate police authorities and set up a meeting if nobody else has done this. Please advise.
